CISS for Epson R200/R300 Printers

This new and improved CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System) is made with virgin plastic making it unlikely to leak and is pre-filled with ink so set up of the system is easier.

CISS (Continuous Ink Supply Systems) provide significant cost and time savings to the high volume ink user. Providing a continuous supply of ink to the printer without the need to replace cartridges, the continuous ink flow system works by using a vacuum seal, preventing leakage and loss of ink supply to the cartridges.

Each container holds approximately 85ml of ink (equivalent to about 5-6 original cartridges per container - also consider that every time you change a cartridge normally the printer runs a head cleaning process for all the cartridges this uses more ink).

Once you have used the initial supplied dye-based ink the tanks can be easily refilled with compatible ink. You only need to top up on colours that require it (The ink tanks are clear so can see when your ink is running low).

Compatible with the following printers:
Epson Stylus Photo R200, R300.

Package Contents:
- 1x CISS
- Air filter suite
- Ink duct support
- Installation guide

This device is not supported by Mac OS.

Was I just unlucky?
Not so easy to set up, and requires some
dismantling of the printer. The postage-stamp
size instructions are useless even if you are
able to read them.
When installed the R300 top cannot be closed
completely and looks bulky and untidy.
Obviously, because of the design of the system,
it made a fair amount of noise in use.
However, if the system had worked as advertised
the above disadvantages would be acceptable,
given the potential savings in ink purchases.
After approximately only 30 prints all of the
blacks in my photos magically turned into lines
of silver with splashes of red! Unfortunately,
I wasted @30 A4 sheets before I checked the
prints.
Despite MANY attempts to clean the heads and
recharge the cartridges the only affect was for
the yellow pigments to disappear.
The R300 then refused to work altogether, with
error messages advising that the machine had to
be serviced! I assume that so much ink was
spewed into the printer that it just couldn't
take any more.
So, the CISS system was binned (with much
relief!), and if anyone would like an R300
which won't work any more let me know before I
dispatch it with the CISS inks.
And I used to like that printer!!!

Nice item
Well just got one for my R300, and so far ( I have printed off 30 photos ) I'm very happy with it.
Fitting it was easy (ish) only took 10 minutes, but I must say the documentations that come with it are very poor, so it was just a case of try it and see.
Not even sure if I have it fitted right even now but it works and thats the main thing.
Colours are good and no different than the epson ink I used to buy.
So all in all I would give this a big thumbs up from me.

2 years on....
and I'm still using this CISS, I don't know why SVP are selling these because they must be losing so much money on ink cartridge sales!!!

This is an absolutely amazing product and I recommend it immensely.

However one thing you'll come to realize, is that inkjet printers in general waste a lot of ink, every time you turn on the printer it "charges" the cartridges and bleeds a bit of ink in order to clear the pipeline.

All the waste ink get's collected in a reservoir at the bottom of the printer, and eventually this will overfill.

My suggestion is to do a waste ink mod as detailed here.
http://forums.cdcovers.cc/showthread.php?t=189379

A word of caution though, it WILL invalidate your warranty. Not that I care anyway, I bought my r300 5 years ago from SVP.

Since I've done the waste ink mod, I've collected a 1/4 of a 500ml water bottle worth of wste ink - in one month. I am a heavy user though.

Is Superb Product and Manual Is Even Worst !
I bought four of these as I have a small "print station" consisting of four R220s. I had to have one replaced as the printer wouldn't accept one of the cartridges, but all four units now seem to be working perfectly. I did a test print some 3 months ago; superb quality and there is no sign of any fading. The very mixed nature of the reviews seems to correlate with my own experience - i suspect that a significant percentage of these units don't work, but SVP were absolutely fine about replacing my faulty one.

The product loses 1 point due to the lousy documentation. It's quite simple to set up, but the supply-line clips don't fit (i used modified coat hangers for mine instead), the cartridges don't snap into place accurately, and there's no mention of how to refill, how to reset the cartridges, where the ink levels should be in the reservoirs etc.

However this is a steal at £14.99! you're effectively getting over 40 cartridges for that price as opposed to less than 2 Epson originals!!

A final note; Whatever you do, don't set this system up as it is shown on SVP website. It is shown upside down!! The tubes run from the BASE of the unit.

Useful Feedback - Pre-filled CIS for R300
For those of you thinking about buying this product I would definitely recommend it and here are a few pointers that I hope will prove useful.

Bear in mind that during transport the cartridges, plastic pipes and ink containers will obviously contain lots of air so don't expect the first few prints to be perfect.

Pictures and documentation says the ink bottles should be positioned on the left but in fact they are on the right of the printer e.g. on the R300 the side where the on/off button is.

In the CIS kit that I purchased there was a small Z shaped piece of plastic to hold the pipes inside the printer but neither the documentation nor the pdf instructions I downloaded mention this so be aware that it should be placed in the recess where you pull down the panel for CD/DVD printing to hold the pipes.

Its useful to slightly soften the plastic pipe work with a hairdryer to make it easier to position the cartridges and pipe work inside the printer.

Again its obvious but once you have installed the CIS and removed the air seals from the cartridges & ink containers you need to keep them at the same level otherwise you will end up with puddles of ink. Once installed I tried to force the ink into the cartridges by lifting the ink containers 6 inches higher than the cartridges this worked but ink came out of the cartridges so I would recommend just lifting the containers no more than a couple of inches above the cartridges to fill the pipes.

To help purge the ink through I printed approximately 10-15 pages of thin ink stripes, one of each of the 6 colours. While doing this I slightly raised the ink containers and eventually my prints/photo's were perfect.

Its worth pointing out that when I don’t use the printer for a few days air does accumulate in the pipes but seems to purge when printing. Lastly for my system I have found it best to leave the ink raised approximately 1.5 inches above the base of the printer.

The colour match and photo printing quality is excellent.

Best £25 I have ever spent.
After some initial teething problems, 1st set a cart would not work, got sent a replacement cart but still the same so SVP sent me a new package and set up and installed no probs.

I agree with other comments, download the guide from this site and you will not go wrong.

I purchased this back in Oct 07 and have to say it works like a dream and produces wonderful results. I recently moved house and had this in storage for a month, got it back out, fired it up and 1st page printed was flawless.

I can't recommend this product enough and for £25 it's an absolute steal. I really can not see why this product gets anything less than a 10/10 rating.

A great system once set up
I bought my CIS system in Aug. 06 and it sat in its box until May 07 when I installed it. It worked fine for a month then I went away for 3 weeks and when I came back the black cartridge failed. I contacted SVP and as usual they were ready to help, making some suggestions for fixing the problem. None of these worked so they offered to change out the whole unit. I had a few more attempts and managed to get the black working again. Since then the system has worked fine for 4 months and I’m very pleased with it. Top marks to SVP for their support.

Some advice:

Use the installation instructions which can be downloaded from the SVP web site as the ones supplied with the unit are confusing.

Don’t use the roller to block the ink supply to the cartridges when leaving the printer for any length of time. I suspect that doing this caused my problem with the black.

Do re-route the drain for the cleaning system to outside the printer. If you remove the small flap on the left at the back of the printer (1 screw) You’ll see the clear plastic pipe inside. Hook it out with a piece of wire and either drill a hole for it to pass outside the printer or leave the plastic flap off and pass it out through the opening. Put the end into a small container fixed to the printer (I used Blutak) and remember to empty the container occasionally.

Download the “SSC Service Utility†to perform the software reset http://www.inkuniverse.co.uk/epson_tool.html

If you don’t use your printer much it’s a good idea to print off a page containing all of the colors once every couple of weeks.
